The Last Flight Out!
February 24, 2010

For months we had been praying, planning, preparing, and finally packing to head to UGANDA on February 6th only to have our flight canceled and rescheduled due to our record breaking snow storm. Two days later we excitedly headed to Dulles International Airport, went through checking in all 54 of our bags, and due to mechanical difficulties, our flight was canceled again.
What was God trying to show us? Was it a testing of our faith? Was it a scheme of the devil casting thoughts of doubt and discouragement? We knew it was spiritual warfare and we would have to armour up! Our struggle was not against flesh and blood, but a spiritual battle.
The team pressed on believing that God had called us to go, He hadn't changed His mind, and we would go forward in obedience.
If it was a testing of our faith, then we prayed that God would find us faithful and that we would endure. I remembered from Paul's epistle to the Ephesians after he spoke on the armour of God, he says, "With all prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit." That night many of us spent time on our knees praying, focusing on submission, so that we would be lined up with the will of God. And if it was from the evil one, then we knew we must take captive our every thought to the obedience of Christ, one of our greatest assets to faith when the trials come because our faith and the Spirit work together.
We met the next morning as a group and had 'Plan C' in place along with the confidence that we would be heading to Amsterdam that evening regardless of what the weather forecast was predicting. We asked God to hold back the snow until we had departed for our mission.
During our stay at the airport that day God put a beautiful christian Ugandan woman in my path. Susan was on the same flight the evening prior as she was making her way home for a family visit. She reminded me that our faith was being tried and how we came out of it would determine what God would give us to do for Him in the future. I was confident that our team wanted to be victors and that in the end, God would be pleased! Susan shared with us how her faith had been truly tested growing up in Uganda and our difficulties seemed suddenly very insignificant. She also shared about her culture especially for Ugandan women and I soaked it all in! I am so very thankful for the time God blessed me with Susan that day!
God also put Megan in my path at the airport. She was also on our flight that had been canceled and she looked so alone and scared so I went to her hoping I could be of some comfort. I shared with her that we had to believe that God was in control and we had to trust Him for each detail of our journey. I invited her to stay at our hotel and prayed God would allow me the privilege to share more with her that night. Megan never showed up to my disappointment but when I met Susan the next day she told me that she had spent the evening prior with Megan at a different hotel. Susan said that Megan told her about me and asked her what I meant by God being in control. Susan said that the seeds that I had sown, she was able to water, and that evening she shared the gospel with her. GLORY. Was it all for Megan, and if so, again God showed me that "all things work together for good". We don't have to go to Ugandato be missionaries but there are lost souls right in our neighborhood.
God held back the snow until we were about to board our plane but the team boarded with the confidence that we were on our way to Uganda. We sat for what seemed like forever as our plane was de-iced several times but then finally the captain came on to announce that we were on our way--HALLELUJAH! After about twenty minutes of turbulence one of our flight attendants came to speak with Dennis and me. She shared with us that the flight crew did not think we were going to depart, that the plane had to be de-iced three times but she had confidence in our pilot that he would not have departed if it was not safe for us. She shared that 90 percent of all flights were canceled that afternoon/evening and we were the last flight out. She then looked right into my eyes and said, "THE LORD IS WITH US!" If I could have I would have jumped up and hugged her huge and did a VICTORY IN JESUS dance. I knew the end of the story!

Susan called today! I didn't get to speak with her, she left a message and number though. And then when I returned her call she was out. But, I am rejoicing that we have connected again here in the USA!
